The STANDARD MERV 10 filter removes: 50% - 64.9% of air pollutants with an average particle size between 1 and 3 microns. 

More than 85% of air pollutants with an average particle size between 3 and 10 microns or greater. 

According to some the best rating for residential HVAC systems is MERV 13.

But before you consider upgrading, make sure your specific system can accommodate that rating. 

A higher MERV rating often means lower airflow, which can cause the system to work harder and use more energy to do its job.
